Trail BlazersTRAILBLAZERS Trail Blazers is back for another year! It is a free after school program offered by the Guysborough County RDA and St. Mary’s Recreation, that is also in partnership with the St. Mary’s River Association. It focuses on outdoor education, physical recreation and leadership building. We will use a combination of outdoor activities to get kids back in touch with the outdoors while being active. Members will take what they have learned about their community through these activities and use that knowledge to apply towards the St. Mary’s area. Who: Children Grades 4-7. When: Every Tuesday from 2:30-5pm, starting Feb. 7 and ending May 29. Where: St. Mary’s Education Centre (home base)/Stonewall Park. *Other locations may also apply based on the activity. Deadline to sign up: January 20, 2011. There is a maximum of 20 spots available and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. No Child Left InsideAfter a successful third year, the Trailblazers will be back again! Starting in February, St.Mary’s Recreation will be running the popular outdoor education after school program again. Trailblazers are open to children from grades 4-7. We hope to see many of our Trailblazers return. New Trailblazer members are always welcome! The Trailblazer program combines outdoor education, outdoor recreation and leadership development as part of the weekly programming. Activities include: snowshoeing, angling, stargazing, hiking, geocaching, orienteering, kayaking and much more. The club will run one day after school from 2:30-5:00pm. Following the slogan: “No Child Left Inside”, the program will be FREE to all children. There will be a maximum of 20 kids in the program due to staffing numbers. Parent volunteers are welcome to join us, and help out with the program. Outdoor Education VolunteersTrailblazers are also looking for community members who have keen interest in outdoor recreation and education, who would be interested in sharing their passion with the Trailblazers. Whether it’s setting traps, building blinds, winter survival, fishing, bow hunting; the sky is the limit. Trailblazers would love to hear from you.
