Building Permits

Prior to any construction starting, a building permit application must be filed with the Municipal Office.

 

Permits are required for the following:

  • All types of construction
  • Any building over 200 square feet
  • New buildings and structures
  • Additions to existing structures
  • Relocation of Existing Buildings
  • Demolition of existing structure
  • Mini/Mobile Homes
  • Wind turbines
  • Towers

Any other type of construction not mentioned in the above list should be brought to the attention of the Building Inspector for confirmation.

Other permits or approvals may also be required from other agencies prior to a Building Permit being issued. They include:

  • Fire Marshal’s approval for Commercial Buildings
  • Department of Environment for Septic and well
  • Department of Transportation and Public Works for driveway approval

Building and Demolition Permit Fees:

  • Commercial Structure $75.00
  • Residential Structure $50.00
  • Other uses $50.00

Occupancy Permit:

When you are ready to move in, call the Building Inspector for an Occupancy Permit to ensure that all work completed meets the NS Building Code Regulations and no unsafe condition exists. There is no charge for this permit.

Municipal Forms can be downloaded from this website by clicking on Forms and forwarded to the Building Inspector, Box 296, 16 Main St., Sherbrooke, NS B0J 3C0 or dropped off at same. Fee must be submitted at time of application.

With all construction projects, it is important to provide as much information as possible on your application form to avoid delays caused by incomplete information. Please make sure your application indicates exactly where your property is. You will be asked to provide a site or plot plan.
