Municipal Tax Payment Options:

  • Payments can be made in person at 16 Main Street, Sherbrooke by cash, cheque, money order or debit.
  • Payment may be made by mailing a cheque or money order, made payable to the Municipality of St. Mary’s, PO Box 296 Sherbrooke, NS B0J 3C0
  • Online or Telephone Banking accepted for RBC and Scotia Banks Clients 
  • Sorry no credit cards accepted
  • All cheques that are returned NSF will be charged a fee of $25

Address and Name Changes

Address changes can be made by informing the municipal office of which accounts to make the changes on. In the case of name changes (marriage, death, divorce, etc.) documentation must be provided to the office in order for the changes to be made.

Deed Transfer Rate

The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s has a Deed Transfer Tax of 0.75% of the sale price of the property transferred. The Deed Transfer Tax is collected on the Municipality’s behalf by the Province of Nova Scotia at the Registry of Deeds located on the lower floor at 33 Pleasant Street, Guysborough, Nova Scotia.

Property Valuation and Assessment Information

Assessment Notices for your property arrive early in January of each year. Each property owner has 21 days from the date on the Notice to appeal the assessed value if they should choose to do so. Please make note of your assessment! Once the 21 days has elapsed it is too late for the current year to make any changes and you will be taxed on the value shown on your notice. Have your Assessment Account Number on hand for use online. Your AAA number can be found on your Assessment Notice or Municipal Tax Bill
