Access Awareness Week Nova Scotia (AAWNS), also recognized across the country as National AccessAbility Week, is an annual celebration starting on the last Sunday of May to raise awareness about disability, access and inclusion.

The provincial theme is "Disability Justice: Stronger Together, First Voice Lead Collective Action,” and it takes place this year from May 31st to June 6, 2026.

The disability community in Nova Scotia was the first in the country to champion Access Awareness Week as an extension of Rick Hansen’s 1987 Man in Motion world tour.

During this initiative, Rick and his team wheeled through 34 countries raising awareness about the potential of people with disabilities and the possibility of creating accessible and inclusive communities.

For 40 years, Nova Scotians have organized community events, flag raising, forums, and concerts during Access Awareness Week to bring attention to the importance of removing barriers for people with disabilities.

For details of these events and more information about how you or your community can get involved in Access Awareness Week you can visit aawns.ca or nsleo.com/access-awareness-week-nova-scotia/ online.

The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s was notified on May 19, 2026, that Shoppers Drug Mart has decided that pharmacy services from the temporary modular facility will cease on June 11, 2026.

Since the closure of the previous pharmacy location in 2025, the Municipality has worked to support continuity of pharmacy services by providing municipal space for the temporary modular facility and by initiating a transparent, province-wide procurement process aimed at securing long-term pharmacy services within the municipality through private sector development.

The Municipality recognizes the importance of pharmacy services to residents and the significant impact this announcement will have on the community.

The Municipality remains committed to supporting a fair and open process to encourage long-term pharmacy services within the municipality.
