ECRL - Funding Advocacy

For immediate release: Funding Advocacy – How the Community Can Help
Over the past months the Eastern Counties Regional Library (ECRL) Board and libraries throughout the province have been working diligently to increase awareness of library funding issues with the Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, (CCTH) Dave Ritcey and local MLAs. Now the Library is asking the community for your help.
ECRL needs as many people as possible to complete their Community Engagement Survey. Without question the Board is likely to face a tough budgeting process, we want to ensure we have key information about the community’s priorities and concerns. The survey link can be found on ECRL’s website, social media channels, there also are paper copies available at all locations.
Concerned library users and supporters are encouraged also to help by sharing their library story with the Minister of CCTH or their local MLA. Contact information is available on the ECRL website. It’s important for elected officials and decision-makers to hear from Nova Scotians about why library services matter to them.
A webpage has been created to house information about ECRL’s funding advocacy efforts for public awareness: https://ecrl.ca/about-us/advocacy

Month of February - African Heritage Month

The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s Celebrates African Heritage Month
African Heritage Month is an important part of our shared history. It is a time to learn about the past, think about where we are today, and work toward a fairer future. African Nova Scotians and people of African descent have made important contributions in all areas of society, and recognizing these contributions helps create a community that values diversity, inclusion, and fairness for everyone. During this month—and throughout the year—we should continue to celebrate and respect the contributions of all people. The Municipality will fly the African Nova Scotian Flag during the month of February to show support.

Water Service Update – Sherbrooke Water Utility
The Sherbrooke Water Utility is continuing to deal with a major water main leak. Because of this, water has had to be turned off at times so water levels can be restored to appropriate levels at the Water Treatment Plant. Affected areas include Highway 7 (from House of Jade to the Sherbrooke Village Inn), Cameron Road, and Hospital Road.
The Utility is working to fix the problem as quickly as possible, and a contractor is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, February 3, to assist with the repairs.
During this time, water customers are asked to conserve water. Residents may continue to experience service interruptions, discoloured water, and changes in water pressure.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation while this issue is being resolved.
